Random Thoughts

I suppose I could have called this page “Rants” but my intention is to add some relevant information here as well as a little ranting about things that annoy me.

So what’s with the name of my blog?

It may not be really obvious with some of my posts, but I’m Pagan. Now, that’s not even terribly important in day-to-day goings on, but it ties in with why I named the blog they way I did.

Crystals … I just love crystals. It doesn’t matter what shape or size they are, I have raw and tumbled, shaped and clusters, even beads that I use to create some really lovely pieces. But they aren’t just pretty baubles. These beauties also help us. I find it fascinating that each type has it’s own special properties that help to soothe and heal us … not just on the physical level but on an energetic level too. And at the risk of sounding a bit nuts, they talk to us too. Each crystal has it’s own personality. Sometimes they make me laugh and sometimes they drive me nuts. But I love them all and have dozens all over my house and my space at work.

Dragons … I’ve loved dragons for as long as I can remember. Not the mean, evil dragons that Hollywood likes to portray, but the wise old dragons from legends and myths. I won’t get into the details of how they came to me, or even a discussion of what I think they are, but I do have dragons around me. I have a guide who is a dragon and several guardians. I’m sure there are others who hang around from time to time but they seem to be a bit shy. They can be obtuse, rarely answering questions directly, but I find them to be a source of strength and wisdom.

Fae … Yeah, we have fae here too. Not just fairies but elves, brownies, and other creatures. It’s sometimes a little challenging to find things just for them that they can mess with, but that keeps them from messing with my stuff. There’s nothing worse than having stuff go missing when you need it! I think that when we create a calm retreat for ourselves that these beings flock to the good energy it gives off. Occasionally they can be a bit of a pain, more than once I’ve been kept awake when my dog decides to chase some of them in the middle of the night, but I like having them around.

Now, one doesn’t have to be Pagan to believe in these things or to experience them first hand, but it helps. Pagans have a way of viewing the Universe that many organized religions seem to stifle. Anyway, I figured since these crystals, dragons, and fae are a part of my daily life it makes sense to name my blog after them … after all, when all is said and done, this blog will be a recording of parts of my life.

What is it with some people?

I get that change is hard. I get that most people naturally resist change. But when your employer mandates that change is necessary what is the point of kicking and screaming? It’s gonna happen and if you resist too much, you’re going to risk losing your job … not a good thing with the way the economy is right now.

My employer has mandated such a change and it’s just insane watching the amount of resistance many of my peers put forth. Seriously, dude, you could have done the job 10 times over with the amount of energy you’re putting into trying to justify why you shouldn’t have to do your job. Really? It’s your job for gods sake. I think I need to ask that someone install a brick wall … slamming my head against it is bound to feel better than the stress of swimming upstream through all this BS.

Stuff people do that annoys me.

Sometimes I just need to rant about the idiocy that I’m exposed to every day. I’ll probably even come back and add to this from time to time.

General rudeness – Why is it that many of the people I see think they can do what ever they want and expect the rest of us to just let them get away with it? It just floors me that when you point out how rude someone is being that not only do they not get it, but they act like you have something wrong with you. Wow. What ever happened to common courtesy? Being polite? Actually giving a damn about anyone other than yourself? I’m starting to get those kooks that want to hide out in some compound and shun the rest of humanity.

Rudeness while driving – Hey, you’ve got a turn signal … use it! And while you’re figuring out how to do that, figure out how to pay attention to what you’re doing too. I really don’t need to practice my evasive maneuvers because you were careless and drifted into my lane. Stop putting on your makeup, shaving, or reading your newspaper or map. Get your sorry butt out of bed 10 minutes earlier before you kill someone. Oh, and if you’re one of those that wants to drive below the speed limit? Get into the slow lane! That’s what it’s for … get a clue.

Cell phone rudeness – If you’re driving, put the damn thing away. If you’re in a restaurant and really need to make a call, go out to the reception area or outside … I really don’t need to listen to your ridiculous conversation. If you’re going to a movie either leave it in the car or shut it off. Don’t be a moron, we all get annoyed with morons.

Expecting us all to “share” – You aren’t a relative or friend so why is it you think I need to tell you all the personal details of my life? And to get pissed because I don’t want to share? Really? Get a grip, get over yourself, grow up, and accept the fact that neither I nor anyone else owes you a damn thing. It’s really none of your business and if it offends you that I say so, go find someone else to whine to … I’m sure you can find someone who is willing to play your game.

General idiocy – My “favorite” is the morons who decide to go jogging or walk their dog after the sun has set while wearing navy blue or black clothing. Seriously? Shouldn’t this be a category in the Darwin Awards?

Western Medicine and medications

Over the last 10 or 15 years I’ve become less and less enamored with Western Medicine and the propensity of doctors to push pills. Sadly, much of this push ties in with our societal greed and its pursuit of the “all mighty dollar”.  It’s really quite simple when you break it down … even though herbs and plants work as well or better than lab created medications, plant matter cannot be patented so you can’t “own” the basic materials for natural concoctions … drug companies are out to make money and feel they must have patents so they “own” the entire process … drug companies only make money if people are sick and need their drugs … doctors make money off of repeat visits … sick people are their repeat “customers”.  It’s really not in the best interest of the drug companies or doctors to have patients that are healthy!  Now don’t go thinking I’m anti-medicine, I’m not.  Western Medicine has its place.  But it isn’t the end-all be-all either.  I consider myself to be fairly well informed with regard to medical issues.  But the way I look at it, I have to be.  If I’m not an active participant in my own healing as well as in understanding what’s what in medical terms, I can’t take control.  Granted, I prefer to be in control (just ask anyone who knows me) but in this case control of your own health is a must in my opinion.

We’ve managed to find a veterinarian who has successfully integrated Western Medicine, Chinese Traditional Medicine, healing with herbs, and healing with energy into her practice.  Oh how I wish I could find an equivalent human doctor!  In the meantime, I will continue on my current path with herbs.  About 15 years ago a friend talked me into trying echinacea for my allergies.  I was amazed at how well it worked … especially since I was skeptical that it would work.  Since then I’ve incorporated herbs and other plants into my life.  In addition to cooking with herbs and taking herbal supplements, I’ve been wandering down a path that has led me to create my own concoctions for a variety of ailments and personal care products.  After some major encouragement from friends and family, I’ve started sharing some of these items with the public.  In February 2010, I created Dragonstone Herbals.  I’m not sure where this venture will lead, but so far we’ve had some pretty good feedback.  My chiropractor loves my alternative medicinal products so much he’s started selling them from his office.  It’s nice to be able to help others while doing something I really like to do.
